Present Indefinite TenseDefinition (সংজ্ঞা): যে Tense-এর verb বর্তমানকালে সচরাচর হয় বা হয়ে থাকে এরূপ কোন কাজ, অভ্যাসগত কাজ বা নিত্য নৈমিত্তিক কাজ, চিরন্তন সত্য, ঐতিহাসিক সত্য, নিকট ভবিষ্যৎকে নির্দেশ করে তাই Present indefinite বা Simple present tense.Structure (গঠন): Subject + verb-4 present/base form + object.অর্থাৎ, Subject-এর পরে verb এবং তারপরে object বসে। Subject-টি Third person singular number-হলে verb-এর শেষে es/s যোগ হয় ।Uses (ব্যবহার):(i) বর্তমানকালের সাধারণ কাজ এবং স্থায়ী অবস্থা প্রকাশ/নির্দেশ করতে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন-I go to the market. You see a bird. He reads a novel. Giraffes live in Africa. They have very long legs and necks. They feed on acacia leaves.(ii) অভ্যাসগত কাজ প্রকাশে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন—Rahman smokes cigars. I get up early in the morning. Does he usually wear white socks with black shoes? I bite my nails.(iii) চিরন্তন এবং সাধারণ সত্য প্রকাশে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন-The earth moves around the sun. The moon gives us light. Water has no color. Birds don’t sing at night. Do women live longer than men?(iv) ঐতিহাসিক সত্য প্রকাশে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন—Babur defeats Ibrahim Lody in the battle of Panipath. Akbar ascends the throne at the age of twelve.(v) নিকট ভবিষ্যতে সংঘটিত কাজ বোঝাতে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন—He comes next week. She starts for Chattogram tomorrow.(V) নিয়মিত ঘটে থাকে এবং always, never, occasionally, often, sometimes, usually, every, week/ day/ year/ summer, on Fridays/ Sundays, twice/ thrice a year/ week ইত্যাদি Adverb অথবা Adverbial phrase সমূহ Present indefinite tense-এর সাথে প্রায়ই ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন-We go to the mosque for the Jumma prayer on Fridays. Mukta occasionally goes there. Good boys never tell a lie.(vii) Conditional sentences বা বর্তমানে অসম্ভব এমন শর্তযুক্ত বাক্যে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমন—Unless he reads attentively, he cannot pass. If he comes, I will go with him. I will wait here until he comes.(viii) যে verb গুলো সচরাচর continuous form-এ ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে না যেমন – love, hate, see, believe, feel, notice ইত্যাদি সেগুলোর ব্যবহৃত Sentence টি – Present continuous tense- এর পরিবর্তে Present indefinite tense হয়। যেমন—She loves me. (She is loving me নয়) I see a bird. (I am seeing a bird নয়) We hate her. (We are hating her নয়)(ix) Time-clause-এ Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন– It is the right time to campaign against smoking.(x) রুটিনগত ধারণার ক্ষেত্রে Present indefinite tense ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন—As soon as he earns any money, he spends it. When the rain stops, we go out.
